Protesters from the @SaveTheHeath organisation on demonstrate Hampstead Heath mens ponds on the 8th of August 2020, #HungOutToDry Protest against The City's Swimming charges The Save Our Ponds campaign run by Forum '71 (named in honour of The Hampstead Heath Act of 1871) had their 2nd summer demo on the Heath this weekend to protest the imposition of compulsory charges which they believe trashes the unique ethos, culture and open access of the historic bathing ponds. Forum '71 also contest that the decision to impose the charging regime was anti-democratic and flawed; it was driven through by The City of London Corporation's Heath Management Committee just before lockdown after a consultation process that was swift and facile. Worse, at the end of that process the Corporation simply ignored the near unanimous view of the Heath Consultative Committee - a statutory body representing 10,000's of Heath users - that for 30 years has never seen its' advice disregarded.
